2PM’s Flashy Outdoor Shoot For NEPA Summer 2013

2PM

Making a comeback after two years, beast-dol group 2PM posed with movie star Kim Go Eun in a 2013 summer outdoor issue of outdoor brand, NEPA.

[News] 2PM's Nichkhun Appears On TV With His Mother To Once Again Respond To DUI Charges

Singer and rapper for the six-piece K-pop boy band 2PM, Nichkhun appeared with his mother on the Korean Broadcasting System show, "Happy Sunday Star Family Show Mamma Mia" on Sunday.

The appearance is one of a series of apologies Nichkhun has issued recently, in an apparent attempt to repair the damage to his reputation caused by last summer's DUI arrest.

"After the accident, for a month and a half I volunteered at facilities for disabled children," the 2PM star said.

"From that experience, I was able to take away a great lesson."

Nichkhun's mom also apologized on her son's behalf.

"As a mother, I feel sorry," she said, speaking in English.

"I would like to apologize [that Nichkhun] disappointed everyone. I just ask for the chance for him to come back to be a better person. Thank you so much for supporting him and hopefully you'll stay on supporting him."

The car accident that led to Nichkhun's DUI arrest took place in the early morning hours of July 24, following a late dinner with several of the artists on 2PM's record label JYP Entertainment.

"This morning, at about 2:30 a.m., Nichkhun drank about two glasses of beer while eating with JYP artists after concert practice, and then drove his way back home," a JYP representative told CJ E&M enewsWorld on the day of the star's arrest.

"On the way he was involved in a minor accident with a motorcycle in a side street near Hakdong Crossway."

Nichkhun, whose blood alcohol content was 0.056 percent, had his driver's license suspended because of the incident.

Earlier this month, the K-pop star opened up about how low he was feeling following the DUI arrest in his band's comeback special "2PM Returns."

"I thought that I wasn't even a person," Nichkhun said in the special, which aired on the South Korean network Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation on May 11.

Born in California and raised in Thailand, Nichkhun admitted feeling like he had squandered the admiration of 2PM's South Korean fans, after they had welcomed him as one of their own.

"Despite being a foreigner, the fans have accepted and loved me, and I have only betrayed and given them disappointment," he said.

"I wondered how much pain the fans were in because of me."

[News] miss A Suzy Leads the Way for Idol Artists, 'Singer to Actor'

The recent trend in idol artists' movement into the film industry looks to be in for a long haul. Why? K-pop idols can kill two birds with one stone: advertisement and ticket sales. In addition, foreign investment is readily available due to their enormous popularity overseas.

"Our Heaven" is the first idol-led film of the year. FTISLAND's Lee Hong Ki plays the main character. Also, 2PM's Junho's "The Watchers" and Big Bang's T.O.P's "Classmate" are coming soon. Girls' Generation's Yuri was recently cast for "No Blessing."

The trend from last year's hot streak of idol-led movies is sailing along. In 2012, miss A's Suzy, JYJ's Jaejoong, 2AM's Seulong, U-KISS Dong Ho and ZE:A's Dong Joon hit the big screens.

Before we delve into the forecast of this year's upcoming film, let us review the track records of last year's performances by various idols-turned-actors.

Seulong's "26 Years" recorded 2.9 million in attendance, Dong Ho's 'Don't Cry Mommy' 970,000, Dong Joon's 'Employee' 1.1 million, JYJ Jaejoong's 'Jackal' 210,000 and Suzy's 'Architecture 101' the highest 4.1 million.

The critics' reviews were every bit as various as their performances in the Box Office. Suzy's flawless in-character acting of a college freshman in 'Architecture 101' catapulted her acting career to a shrine reserved for mainstream movie stars. Seulong and Dong Joon got the nod as promising actors. JYJ Jaejoong showed a different side of him as a comical character, while Dong Ho became a hot issue with unnatural acting skills.

Due to the inexperience of idol artists in film, many of their first roles are not too different from their real-life persona like musicians and idols. That way, the pressure is relieved for the idols and the fans are less repulsive to the idols-turned-actors.

But it would not be right to downplay their bravery in jumping into the film industry just because they have chosen characters that are not entirely different from their own lives. Although they may be similar on the surface, the intricacies played out by the idols were quite novel and enlightening, to say the least. JYJ Jaejoong described the pain of dealing with paparazzis and diehard fans who intrude his home as well as an inappropriate relationship with an older sponsor behind closed doors.

There has been a great amount of criticism at idols-turned-actors for their unprepared transition into acting. But times have changed and we do not see as much ill-advised casting that result in disasters as we used to. Clearly, the idols who have decided to venture into the new territory of acting did so after much consideration and training. As long as the sincerity and the work ethic for acting go hand in hand, we will see more critically-acclaimed products from our idols-turned-actors.

Taecyeon: “Jun.K Was Supposed to Be in 2AM And JoKwon in 2PM”

On May 24, 2PM members Jun.K, Taecyeon, Wooyoung, Junho, Chansung and Nichkhun made a guest appearance on KBS 2TV's "Yoo Hee Yul's Sketchbook."

When 2PM was asked, "How was 2PM and 2AM split up exactly?" They replied replied, "We actually don't know either. Originally, the members assigned to each group were a little different than now. The decision was up to Park Jin Young. In the beginning, Jun.K was supposed to be a part of 2AM and JoKwon in 2PM."

MC Yoo Hee Yul then asked, "If JoKwon had been a part of 2PM, what do you think that would've been like?" The members replied, "He would've done his best." Chansung then added, "I think the team atmosphere would've been really fun." While Taecyeon said, "If JoKwon had been a part of 2PM, we would not have run into trouble on variety programs where we have to bring out our unique talents. We're a group that kind of lacks that."

Jay Park, who released "Welcome" back in April. was the first to welcome the approaching summer with his R-rated music video. Appearing shirtless and displaying his toned upper body, Jay Park got in his groove with actress Oh Cho Hee as controversy regarding the problem of adult content in K-pop mounted.

Interestingly, the baton of 'sexy' was relayed onto 2PM, Jay Park's former teammates. Coming back after a 3-year hiatus, 2PM is not holding anything back as they showed off their chiseled abs and bulky chests in their album covers.

VIXX, who debuted last year, released a seminude album cover on May 14. Immediately following their bold act was 7-men idol group, 100%, with another string of seminude photos.

The longest-lived idol group, Shinhwa, did not give an inch when it came to doing 'sexy.' Though they did not show any six-packs or bulging biceps, Shinhwa declared that they will show how sexy thirty-something year olds can be.

MBLAQ, set to come back early June, will be heading in the 'sexy' territory with emphasis on sensuality.

All in all, the recent trend of male artists toward 'sexy' seems to stem from the need to stand out from a crowd of similar groups that sing about the same things. The struggle to be unique will continue as competition keeps getting tougher and tougher.

[News] 2PM’s album ranks high on music charts in Korea and Japan

2PM (Jun-K, Nickhun, Teak Yeon, Woo Young, Joon Ho, and Chan Sung) are heating up Japan with their new Korean album Grown. Their agency, JYP Entertainment, announced yesterday that the group’s new album hit the ground running.

Grown, Version A ranked second on the weekly imported album chart of Japanese HMV and first on Tower Record’s Daily Chart, which was announced on the 20th of May. The B Version of the album, which is scheduled to be released soon, ranked at the top on HMV’s weekly pre-order chart. The album also ranked second on the weekly general album chart of Tower Records and tenth on the Oricon weekly chart.

Grown, Version A is 2PM’s first album in two years and is in great demand. Version B is to be released on the 23th. Officials of the Japanese music industry were astonished at the albums’ sales because they are imported albums that haven’t even been officially released yet. The group’s EP “Give Me Love” ranked at the top on Tower Record’s daily pre-order chart, so the group has swept both Korean and Japanese album charts.

The group is scheduled to hold a concert in June.

2PM’s Taecyeon Corrects Mistake Made by “Weekly Idol”

On May 23, 2PM's Taecyeon posted on twitter, "I don't own a car, so I don't know on what grounds they are making such claims… That's not even my parent's car. You guys are making claims too senselessly. You should've at least checked your facts."

When fans started expressing worries on twitter, Taecyeon wrote, "It's nothing too serious. I just don't want any baseless rumors about me circulating."

Previously on May 22, MBC Every1′s "Weekly Idol" mistakenly reported that Taecyeon owns a Korean-made SUV that is worth approximately 4.5 million Korean won (about $45,000 USD) as a part of their ranking chart, "I Want to Ride It, Too. Idols' It Car BEST."

After Taecyeon openly corrected "Weekly Idol"s mistake and expressed regret in their careless report, a representative of "Weekly Idol" said, "We just confirmed that the content we have about Taecyeon is wrong. We are currently editing the clips to remove the parts where we talk about Taecyeon and his car."
