The men of k-pop face off in the age-old tale of old vs. new! Who will come out victorious? The crotch-grabbing booty popping 2PM or the vogue-tastic veteran group Shinhwa?

In the black corner, we have 2PM‘s alleged real comeback MV for “A.D.T.O.Y.” Already it’s too much work to type that out. The song is not bad. Not bad at all. And compared to their prelude first single I feel that the overall concept is better realized. AND THERE’S SKIN! YAY!!
I do, however, take issue with the choreography. While “Come Back Blah Blah Blah” had this kind of showtune-y feel, this just reminds me of a bad drag show. Crossing legs on chairs, check. Snapping while swinging your hips, check. Placing a hand around your body so it looks like someone else’s hand, check. Booty popping, check. And of course, that classic move where they lead with the crotch. Double check. What is going on here? This is not manly choreography at all! Not even when 2PM does it. I suspect that JYP Oppa himself had something to do with this. JYP women are always so beautifully choreographed, why can’t that translate to the guys, too?? *shakes fist at heavens*
And I felt oh so tortuously blue-balled when I saw this…
Because I expected this to follow…

In the white corner is veteran idol group Shinhwa! They have been serving up k-pop fierceness since the mother-flipping NINETIES, KIDS! Some of the currently promoting rookie groups were barely born when Shinhwa debuted in 1998. Damn.
Their comeback video for “This Love” is truly some of their best work since they came back in 2012. Yes, it sounds like a club song circa 2005, and yes, the vogue-ing is kind of the opposite of masculine, but somehow (for me at least) it kinda works. The visuals are sleek and sexy, they’re styled really well (give me ALL THE SUITED KOREAN MEN!), and even though no one can vogue like Madonna, they commit, dammit. I’d like to give special recognition to Andy, who would make RuPaul proud with his vogue-ing skills.
The dance break down for the opening of the first chorus is especially cool.
